What type of Cannabis seeds Should I Shop for?

When you shop for Cannabis seeds, they have two main categories, Photoperiod and auto-flowering. As well as a couple other things to look out for.

The main difference in these two are their vegetative and flowering life cycle.

Photoperiod seeds rely on a lighting schedule for its vegetative and flowering stages. A light schedule of 18 to 24 hours of light can be used during the vegetative stage. When you are ready to start flowering, the light schedule  then switches to 12hrs of light then dark. This 12/12 schedule will continue up to the end of harvest.

Auto-Flowers, on the other hand automatically go into flower after a certain time has passed. After the seed  germinates, it typically take 6-8 weeks for the plants to under go its vegetative growth stage. The plant will then automatically go into its flowering stage for the next 2-4 weeks.

With both Photoperiod and Auto-flowering seeds. Indica’s tend to have shorter life cycles, with Sativa’s having longer life cycles. So doing some research on your genetics can help guide you in how long it will take to harvest, as well as what experience and flavours you might expect from your funky Nugs.

The second thing you will want to look for is if the label says regular or feminized.

When you see regular on the package label, the seeds can be a mix of both male and female seeds. During the grow keep an eye on the beginning signs of the flowering stage to determine whether or not you have female or male plants. Unless you want a lot of seeds you will want to separate the males from the females, or kill the males before they mature and start to produce pollen.

When you see feminized on the package label, the seeds will have an 85-95% chance of coming out as a female plant. So you can rest easier knowing your green ladies will produce Funky flowers.
